What is CeraVe Foaming Cleanser?
As a person with oily skin, I was searching for something that would help me control the oil on my face. Thus, I went to the pharmacy and the first thing the pharmacist advised me was the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser which I went for. The CeraVe Foaming Cleanser is a gentle facial foam which has a transparent gel texture. Is is not very thick but not very liquid either. This texture makes it last for a long time. It cleans the face from excess oil, dirt or makeup without disrupting the skin’s natural protective barrier.
Key Ingredients and Their Benefits
The ingredients of this cleanser are difficult to comprehend. In fact many people don’t have the neccessary background or education on them. However, I made some research on the ingredients so you don’t have to. As a result, here is a list of ingredients that are safe and non-toxic:
- Glycerin – Hydrates the skin, and is non-toxic.
- Niacinamide – A form of Vitamin B3, beneficial for skin, no known toxicity.
- Ceramide NP, Ceramide AP, Ceramide EOP – Essential lipids for skin barrier function, safe.
- Cholesterol – Helps skin barrier, completely safe.
- Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid – Hydrating, safe.
- Citric Acid – pH adjuster, generally safe in small amounts but can be irritating in high concentrations.
Although there are plenty of useful ingredients that help the skin, there are also some ingredients that are highly debated for their effects. Some people argue that it contains toxic ingredients. The following are the main two that have raised potential safety concerns, particularly with long-term exposure:
- Methylparaben & Propylparaben – Parabens are controversial due to potential endocrine disruption.
- Propylene Glycol – A solvent and humectant. It can cause irritation in some individuals and has some concerns related to skin penetration.
Parabens have been widely used in cosmetics, skincare products, hair products etc. They serve as artificial preservatives that prevent the growth of harmful bacteria and mold creation. This increases the shelf life of the products. Despite the positive impact on the product, they can be harmful when used. Studies suggest that parabens can cause hormonal disruptions, harm fertility and increase the risk of cancer.
I looked up the ingredients in the back of my CeraVe Foaming Cleanser and I didn’t find any of these ingredients. Is that an effort to improve the formula and avoid potential harmful ingredients?
The results I got
After the use of the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser I noticed the results immediately. I started off by using it 2 times per day (morning and evening) and my skin became less oily. Since I have started using it, the skin has gained a balance of the oil. As for the impact on the acne, I can’t really say much because I don’t have acne problems. Anyways I have noticed plenty of other reviews saying that it does help.
Now, after a couple of months use I am just washing my face only once a day with the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser. Neverheless the result doesn’t disappoint. The bottle lasts for a pretty long time, so it is worth the investment. The bottle is quite big and it has a dispenser for easy application. When I travel, I take it with me in travel size bottles.
In conclusion, I would recommend the CeraVe Foaming Cleanser considering the results I got. While I came to this conclusion from my personal experience, I highly recommend you make your own evaluations since everyone’s skin is different.
